Our Mission
THRIVE Family Health & Education Center empowers growing families through education, advocacy, and research, supporting every stage of family development—from preconception, pregnancy and paternal health to postpartum wellness and parenting. By centering family voices and advancing equitable, community-driven solutions, THRIVE transforms the health and well-being of families in Durham County and across North Carolina.
Through collective impact strategies we drive sustainable solutions, fostering collaboration and community co-design among stakeholders to strengthen family health, early childhood development, and community well-being.

What We Do
Family & Child Health Navigation
Guide families through maternal and child health (MCH) systems, connecting them to critical resources, education, and support networks.
Support Family Health
Promote integrated care models addressing physical, social-emotional, and mental health needs of families. Partner with programs like HealthySteps, Centering Parenting, and Reach Out and Read to ensure culturally aware holistic support for parents and children.
Elevate Family Voices
Facilitate Parent Leadership Teams and Advisory Councils to co-design programs and policies. Use community co-design strategies to ensure solutions are culturally relevant and sustainable.
Advance Research and Advocacy
Conduct research on early relational health (ERH) and family-centered care to inform evidence-based practices. Advocate for policy changes that improve access to equitable care and resources for families.
Build Community Capacity
Deliver education and training for healthcare providers, parents, and community organizations. Support cross-sector collaboration to create systems that center family well-being.
Our Flagship Initiative
Pediatrics Supporting Parents (PSP) focuses on enhancing the pediatric care experience for families with children aged 0-3 by:
- Embedding relational health and mental health support into pediatric practices.
- Training providers in trauma-informed care and family engagement.
- Elevating parent leadership to refine and co-design services.

Born from the combined work of Durham Children’s Initiative and Pediatrics Supporting Parents initiative, THRIVE builds on years of community collaboration to create healthier outcomes for families across North Carolina.
